Field Trip, Club Meeting, & Picnic will be at Yankeetown Spoil Islands Saturday, February 19th. Meet at the boat ramp at 8:00am.

Canoe, kayak, or boat necessary to access the islands… the channel is too deep to walk and the current too strong to swim. Especially when weighed down with fossils. It’s a very relaxing place to spend a few hours hunting for echinoids, sand dollars, etc. We often see dolphins and manatees swimming around. Bring your fishing gear if you are so inclined.

Picnic: FFH will supply hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Members please bring a covered dish to share. No restaurants in the immediate area.

Volunteers with boat/canoes needed to help transport members to the Islands for digging. If you don’t have a boat, join us and we will ferry you across! Even if you are late, just honk your horn and we will hear you and come to ferry you across.

Questions? Contact Melissa Cole to sign up and let her know what covered dish you are bringing.  leaf123456@aol.com | (407) 461-8507

Recommendations:

  • Bring food & drinks (No restaurants in the immediate area.), food, bug spray (unless you don’t mind the biting insects), hat, sunscreen, containers for fossil finds, etc.
  • Wear gym shoes or dive boots – the corals around the island will cut your feet is they aren’t protected.

ONLY FFH members can participate in FFH field trips due to insurance restrictions.
