Canoe, kayak, or boat necessary to access the islands… the channel is too deep to walk and the current too strong to swim. Especially when weighed down with fossils. It’s a very relaxing place to spend a few hours hunting for echinoids, sand dollars, etc. We often see dolphins and manatees swimming around. Bring your fishing gear if you are so inclined.

Looking for volunteers with boats. If you don’t have a boat, join us and we will ferry you across! Even if you are late, just honk your horn and we will hear you and come and ferry you across.

  • Bring food & drinks (No restaurants in the immediate area.), food, bug spray (unless you don’t mind the biting insects), hat, sunscreen, containers for fossil finds, etc.
  • Wear gym shoes or dive boots – the corals around the island will cut your feet is they aren’t protected.
